Gabriele Mangione

TENOR

Born in Lecce, he graduated in singing with honors at the Conservatory of Perugia under the guidance of Cinzia Alessandroni. During his studies he   attended various Masterclasses such as with Mietta Sighele, Renata Scotto, Veriano Lucchetti, Simone Alaimo and Luciano Pavarotti. 

In 2007, at an early age he made his debut in the opera season of the Teatro Lirico Sperimentale in Spoleto, taking part to the production of Il Trovatore by G. Verdi as Ruiz. He immediately began an intense concert career both in Italy and abroad. In 2008, he joined La Scuola dell’Opera Italiana at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna. This context allowed him to debut at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna in 2009 as Bruno in I Puritani, Prunier in La Rondine directed by Josè Cura, Goro in Madama Butterfly and Rodolfo in La Bohème directed by Lorenzo Mariani. 

In October 2010, at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna, he made his debut in the role of Alfredo in La Traviata, conducted by Maestro Mariotti; he also made his debut in the role of Primo Giudeo in the production of Salome directed by Maestro Luisotti, with the direction of G. Lavia; he was also Arbace in Idomeneo directed by Maestro Mariotti, and he took part to the production of Carmen in the role of Remendado, all productions signed by TCBO (Teatro Comunale di Bologna). During the same year, he also played the role of Arbace in productions of Idomeneo performed at the Teatro Municipale di Piacenza, the Teatro Comunale di Ferrara, the Teatro Comunale Luciano Pavarotti in Modena, Teatro Alighieri in Ravenna and Teatro Valli in Reggio Emilia. 

Subsequently, in 2011 he performed the role of Walter Von der Vogelweide in the production of Tannhäuser, also at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Ismaele in the production of Nabucco in Teramo, and he debuted the role of Oronte in I Lombardi alla prima Crociata in St. Gallen (conductor A. Fogliani) during the St.Gallen Festspele 2011. In 2011 he also took part to the Tourneé in Japan of the Teatro Comunale di Bologna, and in this context he had the opportunity to make his debut at the Biwako Hall and at the Tokyo Bunka Kaikan in the roles of Sir Bruno in I Puritani and in the role of Remendado in Carmen. In the summer of the same year, he performed accompanied by orchestra at the National Center For The Performing Art in Beijing as tenor soloist in a wide program of traditional Chinese cultural arias and opera pieces from the Italian opera repertoire. 

In 2012 he began with his debut as Cassio in Verdi’s opera Otello, which took place in Riga with the National Symphony Orchestra conducted by Maestro K. M. Chicon. In the same year, he took part to the production of Stiffelio at the Teatro Regio in Parma, and then again to the production of I Lombardi alla Prima Crociata at the Erfurt Festspiele in Germany. At the end of 2012, he took part to the tour of the Teatro Comunale di Bologna in Brazil, in São Paulo, making his debut in Verdi’s Macbeth directed by Maestro R. Abbado and being able to work with Bob Wilson. 

2013 was another year full of new debuts and new roles in new theatres, among them: Steuermann in Fliegende Holländer at the Comunale di Bologna and a triple debut at the Teatro lirico di Cagliari in the title-role of L’amico Fritz, Perdu in I Shardana and Malcom in Macbeth

In 2014, he sang Rinuccio in Gianni Schicchi in Piacenza, Gastone in La Traviata at the Opera Bastille conducted by Maestro D Oren, Rodolfo in La Bohème in Lübeck, and Ismaele in Nabucco at the Teatri del Circuito Lombardo. After this, he again performed the roles of Malcolm and Macduff in Macbeth at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna. 

In 2016, he was Jason in Medea in Nice, debuted the role of Faust in Boito’s Mefistofele at the Teatro di Lucca, and took part to the production of Giovanna d’Arco at the Festival Verdi in Parma.  In 2017, he performed again Cassio in Otello in Trondheim, he sang in Traviata in Glyndebourne, and the role of Pinkerton in Butterfly in Copenhagen. 

Among his various engagements in 2018, it is important to mention his debut at the Teatro Regio in Turin in the production of I Lombardi alla prima Crociata under the baton of Maestro Mariotti, Macduff in Macbeth in Liège alongside baritone Leo Nucci, and his performances in La Bohème in Vilnius and Würzburg in the main tenor role, Rodolfo, a role he also performed at the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa in 2019. In the summer of 2021, he made his debut at the Teatro San Carlo di Napoli in Il Trovatore as Ruiz opposite Anna Netrebko, Yusif Eyvazov, Luca Salsi and Anita Rachvelishvili , conducted by Maestro M. Armiliato.  In 2022, he took part to the production of Otello in Kiel, in the role of Cassio. In the same year, he made his debut as Manrico from Il Trovatore

Next season he will debut as Calaf in the new production of Turandot at the Landestheater Detmold (from September 2023).
