Musica Viva Hong Kong's General Director, Lo Kingman, described it as "a historic production," marking the first-ever performance of Puccini’s Il Trittico in Hong Kong.
The event was further enriched by an international cast, where Alejandro Luévanos, making his Hong Kong debut, “shines” (in the words of the South China Morning Post) as Rinuccio, performing with “youthful charm, and ardour.”
Luévanos first took on the role of Rinuccio in the summer of 2024 under the musical direction of Patrick Summers and artistic direction of Renée Fleming. Another major Puccini role he has brought to the stage is Rodolfo in La Bohème at the Teatro del Bicentenario.
On that occasion, the specialized magazine Pro Ópera wrote:“Luévanos stood out as the leading poet Rodolfo, thanks to his beautiful timbre, clear diction, impeccable vocal phrasing, and impressive voice projection. A demonstration his solid technique was his performance of the famous aria ‘Che gelida manina,’ where the high C resounded with immense confidence and brilliance. The artist delivered a credible and moving performance, particularly in the final scene, where he breaks into tears at the sight of his beloved’s lifeless body.”
