CHINESE OPERA QUEEN HUI HE STARS IN GUANGZHOU WITH HER FIRST WAGNERIAN ROLE, SENTA IN DER FLIEGENDE HOLLÄNDER

Chinese Star Soprano Hui He is set to debut this Friday, May 5, her first Wagnerian role, Senta in Der Fliegende Holländer at the Guangzhou Opera House conducted by Mº Xu Zhong, in a co-production by Guangzhou and the Shanghai Opera House.

After the opening night she will perform the role for a second performance on May 7 in Guangzhou and then on May 20 at the Shanghai Grand Theatre. Beside her American baritone Todd Thomas will perform the role of the Holländer, heading a Chinese company that includes Guan Zhijing (Daland), Yu Haolei (Erik), Wang Xiaoxi (Mary) and Zheng Yao (Steuermann).

This represents an important debut for Hui He, that already sang excepts from Wagner opera in concerts (Tristan und Isolde and Tannhäuser), but never a complete role. Senta will be also her second German role after Ariadne auf Naxos by Strauss she sang with great success at the Greek National Opera. Next fall she will also record a new album dedicated to Strauss and Mahler Lieder.

Between the performances in Guangzhou and Shanghai, she will headline two Gala concerts (May 12/13) at the NCPA – National Centre for the Performing Arts Beijing with excepts of her iconic Madama Butterfly
